Psychology is located at the intersecting point of natural science, humanities and social science, applies knowledge of various areas into the study target of human mind and behaviors, and knowledge accumulated from various studies into various into various areas again, helping to understand various phenomenon. Accordingly, psychology can be regarded as the central science of all human learning.

This department opens 3 major courses of; Industrial Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Psychology, to cover all areas that students might want to explore, including careers as scholars or competent professionals depending on ability and aptitude of such students.

The Psychology Major provides research methodology and basic subjects such as; cognitive psychology, social psychology, industrial psychology and clinical psychology, and makes it mandatory to participate in the experiments of other students, so that they can accumulate indirect experience.

The major puts focus on the following 4 issues:

• Fostering of basic study abilities required to study human behaviors scientifically
• Balanced understanding and learning of psychological studies up to until the present day
• Contribute to the life of others and oneself based on scientific knowledge
• To help advance future careers of students as basic researchers or applied psychologists

Department in Detail

1. Courses & Curriculums

Our program offers graduate-level training in diverse areas of psychology including; cognitive psychology, cognitive neuropsychology, social psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, clinical psychology, and quantitative psychology. We also offer undergraduate-level courses that are not represented in graduate school. As such, students can enjoy a wide range of courses that cover many areas of psychology. There is a mixture of courses that focus more on theoretical and conceptual issues in the field of psychology and those that are more practically oriented, preparing students for future careers whether it be pursuing advanced academic jobs, or entering the professional workforce.

• The Cognitive Psychology Program specializes in higher-level cognitive processes, which include decision making, judgements, working memory, and meta-cognition. Cognitive Neuropsychology studies perception, attention, memory, and cognitive control through measuring psychophysics, eye movement, and brain waves. Courses offered include Cognitive Psychology (PSY2001), Cognitive Science (PSY3003), and Learning (PSY3002).

• Social Psychology focuses on both basic and applied psychology, studying interaction within individual, group, and society. Main courses offered include Modern Social Psychology (PSY2004), Human Motivation (PSY3001), and Group Dynamics (PSY3006).

• Industrial/Organizational Psychology is a field where general principles of psychology are applied in organizational setting. Main courses offered include Organizational Psychology (PSY3004), Industrial Psychology (PSY2005), and Personnel Psychology (PSY3010).

• Clinical Psychology concentrates on understanding, assessing, and treating psychopathology. Courses offered include Abnormal Psychology (PSY3030), and Counseling Psychology (EDU3004), Quantitative psychology deals with methodology for measuring and quantifying human behavior. Main courses include Research Methods (PSY2008), Experimental Psychology (PSY2002), and Experimental Design (PSY3012).

• The Psychology program offers a number of courses conducted in English which vary each semester. List of courses currently offered in English includes Modern Social Psychology, Psychology of Perception, Abnormal Psychology, Group Dynamics, Clinical Psychology, and more.

2. Facilities

The Psychology Department offers extensive resources and access to school facilities for students to complement their studies. Such facilities include the Institute of Applied Psychology, Experiment Preparation Rooms, Acting Observation Room, Psychology Office, Psychology Student Union, and Computer Laboratory.

3. Student Organizations

Our department has a variety of student organizations where undergraduate students can join to further pursue their academic aspirations. Specifically, there are study groups for general psychology, cognitive/cognitive neuro-psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology. Students are welcome to explore and develop their interests in respective fields of psychology.

4. Scholarships

The BK21 Research Grant is offered as a scholarship program for graduates students of Psychology. The department also offers an Alumni Scholarship each semester for undergraduate students.

2. Future Vision and Career Course

Depending on concrete educational goals of cultivating professionals and scholars, the curriculum consists of subjects focusing on on-the-job training and field case analysis, as well as subjects focusing on the general principles of psychology and basic psychology theory. In particular, all these courses train study methodology and statistical data analysis methods, teaching the ability to verify arguments of oneself or others based on scientific reasoning.
